Hmm…Something’s Missing

Some of you have noted that the NYT 100 Notable Books of 2013 list included only two poetry collections (one of which was published in 2012).  Nothing against fiction and non-fiction, but this seems like an affront: I refuse to believe that only 2% of the reading public consumes poetry.  So, here are six additional 2013 poetry collections–with links to reviews–you might consider in this holiday shopping season (in alpha order):

Zubair Ahmed’s City of Rivers
Fady Joudah’s Alight
Ann Lauterbach’s Under the Sign
Martha Ronk’s Transfer of Qualities
Mary Ruefle’s Trances of the Blast
Ellen Bryant Voigt’s Headwaters

Of course, I wish I could have acquired and enjoyed many more 2013 collections.  Alas, there is always 2014.

Enjoy this reading season (preferably in your local independent bookstore!).
